Hey guys, if you havent seen my discussion in the General section - Decisions... Decisions...
Im looking to buy ba scoot in the new year and I am stuck on chossing the right one...

I need some input from members who own these awsome scoots, in order to make an informed decision and make the RIGHT one too!!

I previously set my budget at R15k max

The choice is between:
Yammie BWS 100 - bit more expensive - little above my budget, good build quality and excellent power off the line, 2stroke -R17500 (maybe a 2nd hand buy)
PGO PMX naked 110 - Awsome looking bike, good quality, almost same price as yammie. - R16000 (maybe a 2nd hand buy)
Jonway Galactica 150 - good Chinese bike, ok build quality, alot cheaper than any other scoot - R9600
Kymco Super 8 125 - good quality Taiwanese scoot, relativly well priced (somwhere between Japanese and Chinese scoots), good looking scoot, Kymco build engines for BMW motorcycles. - R15000

So plz deliver upon me your verdict as to the better option and scoot!  :ride:

Thanks in advance...
Just wondering  why you did not mention the BIG BOY? The styling is great,ok the quality is not the same as the Yam. but then at R7450 for a new one, buy two for the price of the bikes you did mention. Drive the first one till it falls appart, then start to use the second one and keep the first for spares, and you will still have change as well. Plus the
150 goes pretty well in anycase I have have just bought one. Unless there is more to the BIG BOY brand that I dont know.
In all my research etc, the general consesus was that Big Boy (i.e most Chinese scoots) are not of the same build quality as the Japanese and even the Taiwanese kymco's. Now as you stated its obvious why... the price. A Jap scoot goes for 15k plus while the chinese scoots are around 7-10k mark. But the old say of "goodkoop koop is duur koop" is an ever present thought in my mind.  :ride:

This is not to say that the Big Boy (chinese scoots) is rubbish etc, but that it WILL come with numerous problems either sooner or later, but most people say its rather sooner!!
The main ffactor in chinese scoots are parts and servicing... now this has improve quite drastically over the last couple of years and not to shabby. But it depends on your area and dealer!

The Jonways have the same engine as the Big Boy's but the build quality is rather different as i have seen and heard testimonies to this on forums etc... Also it seems the dealerships and parts are better than big Boy.

Im definitley open to Chinese Scoots but there are Pro's and Con's.

The definitions of my Best 4 Scoots was a wagering-Up of these Pro's and Con's.

It should not be the same for all people... :search:

Hope this answers your question, feel free to add any comments!

Seems like too much time, energy and expense, get a larger capacity 4 stroke scoot. None of mine have ever needed oil! Then you've got all the performance you'll need.

I wish it was that simple... IM also looking at 4t's. But finding a nice Jap make 4t scoot is hard.
The only real option with the bigger 4t's are the Jonway Galacitica's and Kymco 125 Super 8 or People 200 S.

Opinion>?

Have you considered the suzuki an125? its on their website, but im posting from my cell so cant give you a link.last time i checked they went for like R13000 new.theres 2 around where i live and they look awesome!id get 1 in a heartbeat. just another jap option(or a non-scoot gn125 for r10000).with that said.get the 1 you want.even if its r2k more.otherwise youll always be wishing you got the 1 you wanted!

Have a look at the SYMs as well backed by Suzuki, great service. The scoots are also well priced!

Hey there! Are you happy with your decision re a BWS? I have the same dilemma as you. I dunno which to choose - Galactica or a Yammie...

Im only buying the Yammie next week friday. But i have done exausting research and my decision is made upon all the research.. The Galactica is not a bad scoot from what ive read and heard. For that price it is a very nice scoot.
But.. like the old saying goes, "You get what you pay for".
Build quality of the Galactica is not that good, the engine will maybe hold and keep running but as time goes on repairs are the order of the day..wereas the Yamaha is a very low mainttenace scoot with exccellent build quality.

 :moped:

I prefer a no hassel scoot, even though its almost twice the price! Also, seeing as you are a lady i wouldnt want to breakdown at night (or day even) and you have to push the scoot km's.... Not ayoba!

I have also heard that some BWS owners have had their scoots for 15year with no problems what so ever.. which is a big plus.

I would have liked if the yamaha was 125or 150cc, then there would be no contest!!
But you can buy a 125cc Malossi big bore kit for the Yammie at R2800. Then its a 125cc.  :ride:

But at the end of the day you have to choose, and it comes down to personal likes/dislikes.

thats exactly why im also going with the better built Yammie.. because i can

if it wasnt for medical aid that will have a fit and not cover me if i fall (without a licence/learners) i would have bought the BWS alot sooner!

Was going to start a new topic but found this one, I bought a Bws not so long ago, and started having second thoughts, the pgo looks so cool.. the naked bars, digital speedo and better suspension.. still love the Bws, maybe I should own both to really tell which is better?

This website pretty much sums it up.. http://www.hagg.co.za/best-scooter/

Yamaha BWS

Been around for much longer- so many more available. Were imported since the early 2000’s.
More spares available from dealer stock. Different weight rollers etc from dealer.
Stock carb is more adjustable (Needle has adjustments)
Can do HUGE mileage… there is a delivery bike with over 100k on the clock.
Once modded will have a faster top speed than the PGO… tops out at about 140 km/h
No filter and jet needed for exhaust pipe change.

PGO Naked 110cc:

2 piston front brake and bigger front disc
Braided brake hoses
Better suspension front and back.
Digital Speedo
Top bar mounts capable of taking MX Bars
Picks up and accelerates faster than BWS. Will do 130 km/h on a very modded one.
Stronger helix- 3 pins vs 2 on BWS
Parts on back order- so expect to wait.
12″ front wheel vs 10″ on BWS

Any pgo fans out there? Pls reply!
