Ajusting valves on Honda XR150
« on: March 09, 2017, 01:55:45 PM »
Hi all
Currently sitting on 6000km on the odo. +- 2000km ago I got the valves adjusted by a bike mechanic. Now 2000km down the line the valves are again sounding a tad too noisy for me. So I don't want to fork out again money for someone to do it and not do it right. My question is what tools do I need to do this job WITHOUT removing the petrol tank. I checked some youtube clips and the guys are managing without fuel tank removal. Will one of those very short screwdrivers fit between the tank and the valve adjustment screw?
Please note I have a Datsun 1200GX and know the procedure in doing the valve adjustment. My concern is mainly I am too lazy to remove the tank.

Take the clucking tank off, you lazy boy

... it actually makes the job easier & means that any cobwebs and dust and junk under the tank and wiring doent fall in to the exposed cylinder head area during your confined attempts at getting your hands, feeler gauge and tappet wrench in there.

Glad I followed your advice Stanthescooterman. I would have cursed like a madman if I didn't remove the fuel tank. I checked clearance and all seemed within spec.
