.... Have at the very least, a basic plan (A & B) and be as prepared as one can reasonably be - the boy scouts had the idea.
One wants to have an emergency supply of food & water, backup electricity, fortify your property with security layers, acquire basic self-defence skills for you and your loved ones, arm yourself, learn how to use it & tap into a like-minded community of people.
How far one wants to take it, is of course up to the individual: I have heard of people that have nearly bankrupted themselves with what they have spent on this.
.... and, yes - don't tell everybody about it, because who's door will they be knocking on WTSHTF?
Rather have the parachute and not need it.
