Variator Pins
« on: September 29, 2017, 10:42:05 AM »
Hi, I need the benefit of a scooter boffin here. I'm replacing belt and rollers (sliders) at around 100 000kms and discovered there is something else in the variator which I had no idea even existed - the variator pins. They look to be teflon (Google) and I see they wear down quite a bit, like rollers. Is this a part which you only replace when doing the variator? If so, mine will have to wait a while. The Silverwing will comfortably do another 50 000kms before that is an issue.
Spy/Slang can you help with this sage advice? When to replace these pins - or should I start with inspecting when we open up the transmission?
MM

MM, perhaps you can post some pics, so that we can see what you are referring to?

...  and discovered there is something else in the variator which I had no idea even existed - the variator pins.

How did you "discover" this ? On silverwing600.com ?

Are you sure that you are not getting mixed up with the J Costa variator?

This is not a "normal" variator. It runs with "pins", not rollers.

Aaah! The 'pin' drops! The instruction manuals which I have been looking at must be for the Costa. That is why I know nothing about them! Thanks Stan (much enlightened MM!)
