More exciting Forum requests
« on: February 20, 2018, 11:00:30 AM »
Dudes and dudettes..next year this forum will be 10 years old. Hopefully all our current members will still be alive and kicking then.

I get daily emails and private messages...telling me i must make this forum more exciting.!!!??

With tears in my bloodshot eyes I ask...how da hell do i do that???

What do people want to see?
Do they want to be entertained by a harp playing nymph while reading the forum or hear black metal/rock?
Must I add a flashing light that will give half the readers epilepsy?
What is this excitement they want? I ask all of them to come with suggestions and thats the last i hear from them.

Do they miss the bantering and constant snide sarcasm found on so many other forums?
Do they want a more FACEBOOK like interface, where they can post cat and breakfast pics?

Wikipedia
forum
ˈfɔːrəm/Submit
noun
1.
a meeting or medium where ideas and views on a particular issue can be exchanged.

And thats how I approach it.

I dont know how to entertain people that does not know what they want. Nor do I have the time or energy.

There is already a huge database of scooter related topics on this forum..
We get anything between 3000 and 10 000 page views a day. Many of those just robots, etc..but at least half of them from people just viewing threads and topics, without becoming members.

I guess certain people expect a lot more.

Again...any suggestions are welcomed. Like I said long ago...anyone thinks they can make it more exciting are welcome to volunteer....I will make them an admin in 2 seconds.

Enough ranting......SALOET

Slang, I reckon Diesel & I have been on the forum along with you since the beginning. I have never felt the need for more excitement! The odd times you have changed the forum layout I have b***ched and complained  :frustrated:
It is fun to read witty posts and responses.....but that comes from the members themselves. If people are not pitching in and posting, then I guess they will have to accept the forum as it stands right now. It is not up to the admin to provide entertainment single-handed! I appreciate your allowing us to use this forum - undoubtedly the best Scooter forum in Africa!  :applause:

Well, what made the internet take off? What made smart phones become so popular?

We need to seriously up the amount and quality of porn we have on the forum!

Everyone knows that S E X sells!

Heck, we can even have a couple of sites sponsor the forum!

It's not up to you, Slang. You have done more than your fair share, over and over.
I even think that the word Game is a cop-out & should be discarded, but that's just my R0.05
People need to contribute more, and not just be takers.
If more people contributed more, the forum would be more lively.
But this is a microcosm of the real world : 95% of the people enjoying the benefit of the work put in by the 5%.
Sadly for me, this forum has never gained the critical mass that it requires to be self-sustaining and lively.
But it is what it is ...

Do you think it would help to add that when you have made more than 700 posts and have been a member for more than 8 years that the S E X posts become visible?  :chance:

As MM, I too have been part of this forum for 8 years, and back then (I’m sure MM can back me up) the “excitement” was having members that were super enthusiastic, with a lot great technical knowledge, sound advice for newbies, having breakfast runs of 20+ scooterers! But over the years a lot of those original stalwarts, including myself, have stopped riding, gone onto bigger bikes etc, which has made this forum a little quiet of late! It’s up to the new members to re-ignite those early days, get together, go on runs, and generally revel in all that is scootering!

Life is Great!!!!

I think the forum is fine as it is. The layout is decent and it works.

I really believe that scooters and small bikes are increasing on the road and as that happens I think we will see more members sign up.

Here is a suggestion:

What about moving some of the best builds to the best of the best section? If that is open to guests as it says, that could be a great way to get people keen on modding.

I think another section that could become very popular is the DIY mechanical/servicing section. I'll have a look now but maybe it could do with some cleaning up (I'd be happy to assist) to get to the good stuff and make it more easily accessible.

Just ideas. I'll think some more.

 I agree wholeheartedly with MM, Doc Simon and Stan in that it is up to the individual members contributions that keep the forum alive and "exciting". If you want it "more exciting" then what have you contributed to create said excitement? :dontknow: And we're not talking about SEX, there are plenty of other sites where you can find it if that's what floats your boat. :rules:

I'm one of those that love reading others posts and usually only contribute when I have something meaningful to add.
Only on odd occasion do I post an opinion but that's just me being cautious. It usually takes me forever to post something as I review my posts a gazillion times before hitting the Post button. I've had egg on my face too many times in the past to voice some of the opinions I have on an open forum.

I've said it before, one of the things I appreciate most about this forum is the absence of the bantering, and constant snide sarcasm found on so many other forums. Thank you, Slang.  :thankyou:
