Nephew Down
« on: June 22, 2014, 06:49:59 PM »
Hi All

My nephew was taken down by a cager yesterday in Lonehill JHb at about 4pm. Knocked over and his right leg landed under the cager's wheel. Had to be airlifted to hospital.

My brand new scoot is a write-off and my nephew may have to have his leg amputated. Lost a lot of blood and crushed.

Just so you guys know, he was wearing my bike jacket, gloves and helmet when he went down. He doesn't have even a scratch on his upper part of his body.

Thank goodness I insisted he wear my gear when he asked to use my scoot.

Please guys & girls................. Be Careful, and wear your ATGATT!!!

Aggenee this is terrible! Hope everything works out well and the leg can heal up.

This is now the 4th accident that happend yesterday that I became aware of. The other 3 - although motorcycles and not scooters all 3 died, 1 on the R27 near Melkbosstrand, 1 on the N7 also in the Western Cape and one of the members on the 600.net forum.

All of this really makes one wonder if the savings by using this mode of transport is really worth it?????

These accidents should be a reminder for us to be more aware of others around us, how we kit up as well as how we ride. Also, I crushed my ankle on someone else's bike, and I shouldn't of been on it. I don't know ability of Panda's nephew, but I won't lend my ride out unless I know the persons ability or trusted them big time.
We don't know the circumstances of all the accidents that happen, like if the rider was being reckless, if the ride was roadworthy, etc.
If I do it I'm a Genius. If I don't do it, well... I'm still a Genius, but don't have the proof.

My nephew is a registered driving instructor in all categories of vehicles. He has never had an accident in the 14 years he has been driving. Of which he rode a bike for 7 of those years.

According to eyewitnesses, he pulled off at the traffic light, turning left. The cager, seeing there were no cars coming, skipped the traffic light, made a U-Turn and pushed my nephew into the yellow line. Trying to avoid a collision, he caught the verge of the road and came off the scoot, cager then stopped and reversed over his leg. Climbed out the bakkie and then ran away, leaving his bakkie and passengers on the scene. Cops are looking for him (and so am I............................f*cker!!!).

Anyway, nephew has had surgery on his leg and will have to undergo a few more surgical procedures, but it seems like they may be able to save it.

Thanks, but the cops have impounded his bakkie and are still looking for him. Apparently he is going to be charged for reckless driving, failing to obey a traffic signal and attempted culpable homicide. He has major sh*t coming his way if and when they find him.

Had he not reversed, my nephew would have come out with a few scratches, bruises and concussion.

Awesome news that his leg will be saved. I hope they get the driver quick. I would sue the chop for everything, and more.
A friend of mine was taken out by a reckless driver and even though they bump into each other, the chop does not even acknowledge him, and has yet to even finalize the insurance claim. Not even an apology or 'how are you'. Bike written off and another operation still due.
Please keep us updated on your nephews condition.

Nephew having operation no. 3 on his leg today. Will know after this op whether he will have full use of his leg and be able to walk again.

They are putting steel pins in. Would still need skin graph and plastic surgery after this. Looks positive though.

Thanks for all you guys & girls concern. I will keep you updated.

A tool rode over him. He sounds like a toughy, and therefore will bounce back. I confirm

Hi All

Update...... Nephew released from hospital on Wednesday after 3 and a half months, 9 operations later, but seems they managed to save his leg.

Thanks for all the well wishes and support.

ps. Cager in question is still missing.
