Hi Paul, what you describe there is not the point of concern, mentioned in an earlier thread.

It's not about the box itself coming off, per se, it's about the metal parts, that the box and base plate attach to, failing.

Although many people assume that the carrier is for mounting something to, it actually was never designed to handle the weight (& extra cantilever effect) of a box plus cargo.

The aluminium carrier itself (you can see how thin the metal is) will either shear in half on both sides, where it juts out (like in the pic below), OR the scooter frame itself cracks at one or more of the 4 points where carrier bolts to the frame.

It won't happen overnight, but the chances of it happening sooner or later are very high, based on the numerous examples I have encountered in the scooter industry over the years.

A smaller box might stand a better chance, but that box of yours is relatively quite large, all things considered.

What Stan said...learn from us older folk. It might hold for long with little weight...but the moment you load it with tea and samies, everything takes strain and you loose your valuables.

That broken carrier in the picture looks like misuse, for example using the carrier as a guide for popping wheelies would cause hairline cracks not so visible to the eye, then after all the reckless stunts the top box was mount & loaded with dumbbells & cases of beer & blamed for the breakage of the carrier. This coming from an old-timer!
